Concept
Father of Self-sufficiency
Our early influences include growing up rurally and BBC’s sitcom The Good Life, whose writers were inspired by the ‘Father of Self-sufficiency’, British author and environmentalist John Seymour, a.k.a. The Crank Peasant. Then, in 1999, Marcus was further enthused by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s ‘Escape to River Cottage’.
In 2007, Marcus met his wife Erin. Fortunately, she was unfazed by his eccentric views on recycling, planetary pollution, natural cleaning and cosmetic products, and wanting to live life on a small holding.

Our Story
Their current lifestyle started 15 years ago, with two chickens and a packet of seeds. Both keen cooks who were raised around other ardent practitioners of the art, Marcus & Erin wanted the very best quality ingredients, at the lowest cost on their plates.
Being a partnership between a Countryman and a Wild Woman, Marcus decided to bring all of their innate skills and the love of the natural world under one umbrella, and so Still Game Fieldcraft was born.
Simplicity is key in all things. None of the lessons we teach are difficult or complex, but in fact many of them merely cover the forgotten skill sets of our ancestors.
As the old Czech/Slovak saying tells us, ‘A man with one eye on the past is blind in one eye. A man who has no eye on the past is blind in both.’
